Description:

  • etymology: Chionanthus from Greek chion snow, and anthus flower; virginicus = of Virginia
  • leaves simple
  • flowers white, in beautiful drooping clusters; petals narrow, fringe-like (hence the common name)
  • usually functionally dioecious (separate male and female plants)
